Since 1965, our volunteers have gathered and cared for the objects and stories that make Casino and the Richmond Valley who they are.

Our story

From a founding meeting to a lasting institution

The Casino & District Historical Society was established in 1965 by a group of residents who recognised that the district's history was in danger of being lost. Photographs were fading, family records were being discarded, and the objects of everyday life were disappearing. They resolved to do something about it.

In 1966 the Society opened its museum, giving those treasures a permanent home. Over the decades since, generations of volunteers have expanded and cared for the collection — cataloguing donations, restoring items, and welcoming visitors, students and researchers through the doors.

Today the Society remains an entirely volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation, proud to be a keeper of the region's shared memory.

To collect, preserve and share the history of Casino and district — for the benefit of the community, students and visitors to the region.

What we do

Everything we do serves one goal: making sure the district's history is safe, accessible and celebrated. We care for a growing collection, host historical community events, and help people connect with the past.
